Security

BaseCase recognizes the extreme importance of availability, integrity and security of your data. Every aspect of our system has security as a first priority.

Redundancy and high availability

BaseCase maintains redundant live backup of our main servers. In the face of an unpredictable event such as hardware failure, this configuration ensures that our service stays operational through a failure of any component and will continue to function at high levels of performance.

Secure internet communications

Verisign

BaseCase by default uses password protected user accounts to secure access to the model and all model data. A strict ACL system is in place to maintain view and edit permissions. Because our system makes use of the internet, the encryption module ensures the privacy of all internet communications using 64-256 bit SSL encryption, certified by VeriSign. This industry-standard level of encryption is identical to that in use by most online banking systems.

Off-site backup

A second level off-site data backup ensures that your invaluable data is safe from catastrophic events. All off-site data is encrypted using 256-bit AES, the identical encryption standard that is use by the US government.

Server security

All the main servers in our network are protected by 3Com Tipping Point 5000E with an intrusion detection system (IDS), intrusion prevention system (IPS) and denial of service (DOS) protection.

Hosting

BaseCase Servers are located at a private N+1 data center in Washington D.C., operated by Softlayer. This facility is also home to data centers belonging to AT&T and Verizon Business, and receives power from two redundant Dominion Virginia Power grids. SoftLayer data centers are SAS 70 Type II Certified, meeting industry-recognized requirements for security and reliability. Additionally, SoftLayer is self-certified with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s U.S.-European Union (EU) Safe Harbor framework, verifying that SoftLayer meets the EU’s adequacy standard for data and privacy protection.
