Real-world data (RWD) is a valuable resource for pharmaceutical companies as it can be used to demonstrate the impact of new products outside of controlled clinical environments. This makes RWD particularly useful when communicating the effectiveness of a drug to payers. And as today’s payers increasingly require extensive evidence that proves a product’s effectiveness, RWD has become a crucial new element of value communication.
When communicating RWD to payers, it is now common for field teams to use mobile value communication tools. However, there are difficulties associated with using RWD to power such tools, such as the need for frequent updates.
New data is normally released every quarter, but possibly as often as every month. This can result in tools quickly going out of date. Also, updating tools is normally a job reserved for IT specialists, meaning the project may become dependent on external timelines or be subject to unexpected delays.
Ideally, pharma companies would be able to update their value communication tools in-house, shortening timelines, reducing reliance on IT specialists, and simplifying the process.
